Floor joints

Concrete floor joint assessment and repair for factories and warehouses. Explore preparation, treatment selection and maintenance with Royal.

Joints are an important part of concrete flooring. They relate to construction sequencing and movement or shrinkage control as specified by the designer. Forklift areas require particular attention to joint edges because local damage can disrupt traffic and increase repair needs.

Joint types and function

Construction, contraction and movement joints serve different purposes. They should not all receive the same filler or be covered without considering their intended function. Review the design and joint type before specifying treatment.

Signs requiring assessment

Broken edges, missing filler, irregular gaps and differences in level may warrant inspection. Repeated failure can indicate movement, loading or another unresolved cause. A repair should address the cause rather than simply fill a gap.

Repair process

Define the damage and isolate the working area. Remove loose material, clean and prepare the joint, repair suitable edge defects and apply a treatment compatible with the joint and traffic. Observe product application conditions and reopening times.

Warehouse and factory traffic

Wheel type, traffic frequency, turning and loading areas influence the scope. Work may be phased where safe isolation is possible, subject to curing times. Joint repair does not replace specialist assessment of settlement or structural cracking.

Common questions

Is every crack a joint? No; a crack and a designed joint require different assessment. Can damaged edges be repaired? Concrete condition and damage extent determine this. Must operations stop? Isolation, treatment time and traffic determine the arrangements.
