Epoxy or polished concrete: choosing for your project

Compare epoxy and polished concrete by use, preparation and maintenance. Learn what to assess before specifying a factory or warehouse floor.

Epoxy or polished concrete: choosing for your project

Epoxy and polished concrete solve different requirements. Epoxy adds a resin system to a prepared substrate; polished concrete uses the slab as the finish. Compare operating conditions and the existing slab before colour, gloss or cost.

Define the application

Identify pedestrians, trolleys or forklifts, cleaning frequency and liquid exposure. Specified chemical resistance needs review of substances and system data. An exposed-concrete appearance requires assessment of polishing suitability.

Assess the substrate

Cracks, moisture, old coatings and stains influence preparation. Epoxy needs conditions compatible with adhesion. Polishing can reveal aggregate and repair marks. Inspection and a sample support realistic expectations.

Review care and handover

Compare approved cleaning products, curing requirements and future repair plans. Texture and actual conditions determine slip requirements; appearance alone does not establish performance.

Compare equivalent quotations

Request preparation, repairs, materials, thickness or polish level, joint treatment and sample requirements. Compare the complete scope rather than price per square metre alone.

Common questions

Can systems be changed later? Removal or further preparation may be needed. Is polishing always cheaper? Repairs can change the comparison. Can both be used? Different zones may suit different systems, with appropriate transitions.
